This day is dedicated to the one and only Roald Dahl, one of the world's greatest story-tellers. September 13th is when he was born, that is why he is celebrated every year on this day.
Roald Dahl was originally a spy, an ace fighter pilot, a chocolate historian and a medical inventor before his story-telling days. He was born in Llandaff, Wales. He was sent to boarding school and that is where many bizarre and strange and memorable events would later be recounted in the story - Boy. This memory stayed with Roald Dahl throughout his life which inspired him to write Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
When he finished school, he enlisted in the Royal Air Force at 23 years old. He received many injuries while there and once healed, he decided to supply intelligence to MI6. He got married after this and had five children. He divorced and remarried, and his wife furthered Roald Dahl's legacy through the foundation of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity and The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre.
He had a burst of literacy energy in 1961, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate factory. He wrote screenplays for the James Bond hit 'You only Live Twice' and 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. Then, Fantastic Mr. Fox was published in 1970, the year before the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was released. He had massive success on television. In the early 1980's he published The Twits, Revolting Rhymes, The BFG and The Witches. He then published his autobiography called Boy in 1984 and Going Solo in 1986.
